Reps. Kirkpatrick and Bost Introduce Bipartisan Resolution to Recognize the Heroic Efforts of the Servicemembers who Carried Out the Afghanistan Airlift

Representatives Ann Kirkpatrick (AZ-02) and Mike Bost (IL-12) introduced a bipartisan resolution recognizing the men and women of United States Transportation Command and Air Force Air Mobility Command who planned and carried out the Afghanistan Airlift. Additional cosponsors include Reps Seth Moulton (MA-06), Tim Ryan (OH-13), John Katko (NY-24), Adam Kinzinger (IL-16) and Rodney Davis (IL-13).

"The sacrifices from members of our armed services represent the best of our country. The heroic efforts of the servicemembers who carried out the evacuation in Afghanistan proves this," said Rep Kirkpatrick. "The courage, commitment and compassion of these servicemembers provided hope to those in need and saved lives through a remarkable evacuation. I am proud to introduce this resolution to honor their bravery."

"Facing insurmountable odds, the men and women of TRANSCOM and Air Mobility Command moved heaven and earth to rescue Americans and our allies in Afghanistan," said Rep. Bost. "Working nonstop, they evacuated 79,000 people -- a difficult task even under the best conditions. They deserve every ounce of recognition they have received, and this resolution will help express our gratitude for their heroic efforts."

Over the 17-day operation, US servicemembers operated around the clock to conduct more than 1,900 evacuation flights. More than 500 Air Force aircrew members, contingency response units, and other support entities were involved in the evacuation, operating in extremely challenging conditions to evacuate more than 124,000 individuals. The operation was the largest Non-Combatant Evacuation in the history of the United States.
